Anyone who has followed Nigerian music over the years can acknowledge it has come a long way. Once there was a time I didn’t fancy much of the jams our artists put out. I would label them as too loud or too fast, with inordinately shitty lyrics. But times have changed. I guess the current crop of artists has discovered how to skilfully infuse creative melodies on the AfroBeats base; resulting in music that is appealing to the young and old generation alike.
AfroBeats have crossed our Nigerian borders and gained recognition across Africa and the world at large. In this note, I compiled some of my favourite jams of 2020.
PS: Not all songs on the list were released this year, I just thought I’ll add them on here as a nod to their brilliance.
